The first professional graphic designers to sign up for the free service are Black, a black-and-white graphic design consultancy founded by graphic designer James Black.
Black’s team have launched a new website called Black Graphic, and have been in contact with other designers and agencies to get started.
The site, which offers design training, is currently only available for Mac and Linux.
Black says the site will become an opportunity for designers to start freelancing.
“We are looking for designers who have a passion for designing and are motivated to build their careers as professional graphic artists,” Black told New Scientist.
“The site will provide a platform to offer them the opportunities to work from home and in the comfort of their own home while continuing to contribute to the industry through the services offered.”
The website is currently available for free and is designed to be as accessible as possible.
“I like to use the same fonts, and I like to keep the color palette as neutral as possible,” said Black.
“There is a good amount of information on the site that is not necessarily obvious, and we think the site can help you get a feel for what it is like to work in the industry.”
Black added that the site is designed with “free agency” in mind.
“If we can provide the tools and the information to help you choose the right professional agency, you’ll be in a better position to take the leap.”
The company has already received several enquiries from freelancers looking for design services.
The team are also looking for people to help them launch a freelancing website, as well as help them plan a marketing campaign.
“It’s not the same as a full-time job, but we want to be able to give some of those jobs to freelancers who would like to be part of the process of getting their own online business off the ground,” said Tom O’Keefe, the site’s founder.
Black is currently in talks with companies such as The New York Times, the BBC and The Guardian, but is hoping to grow the site to offer a wider range of clients, including companies in the fashion, design and media industries. “
Some of them have seen us on their own portfolios, and some have even been contacted through Facebook and Instagram.”

“As we look to be getting bigger, there is an opportunity to expand our focus to a range of industries where our expertise is valued, such as the healthcare industry, finance and the education industry,” said O’Reilly.
“While we are not currently looking to build a business, we are definitely looking to work with a range in those sectors to offer you a more customized service to meet your needs and to keep you connected to a professional network of professionals.”
The site is currently being developed by O’Dell’s Design Services.
